Jana Burk, Tulsa Public School’s Executive Director of Teacher/Leadership Effectiveness Initiative, and Denis Newman, CEO of Empirical Education, spoke with senior advisors at the U.S. Department of Education about findings and solutions for continual improvement of teacher quality. At an April 8th meeting that included leaders from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) and the Office of Innovation and Improvement (OII), Burk and Newman talked through latest findings on the effectiveness of classroom observations, including a case study on how tools like Observation Engine helped Tulsa train educators on and implement their classroom observation model with principals throughout the entire state of Oklahoma. Further presentations of Observation Engine are being scheduled with various departments at the ED later this year.
